Teardown · Culture Kings · 8 November 2026
A cookie banner that covers half of every phone screen and never offers an "Accept" button, on a home page that took 9 seconds to show its main image
Culture Kings has the pieces of a great sneaker page: price and stars right under the name, a clear size grid with sold-out sizes crossed out, a Fit Check slider (true to size), Afterpay at $35.00 x 4, a TRY ON button and real verified-buyer reviews. Help is everywhere, with text, live chat and email in the footer of every page. What gets in the way is on top of the page and in the details. On a phone, the cookie banner covered the lower half of the home, product and cart pages throughout our visit, with only an X and "Cookies Settings" to dismiss it. On the home page, an app download banner sat on top of that. Google measured the home page's main image at 9.0 seconds on a mid-range phone. And on the Manoadome page, size 7 was already selected, the description is collapsed, and the review count says 5 at the top and 7 further down. We reviewed culturekings.com.au as a first-time visitor on an iPhone-sized screen and a laptop on 6 November 2026, using the Nike Manoadome ($140) as the test product. Our visit came from a US server, so the "website for the United States" pop-up we saw won't show for Australian shoppers. Our scripted add to bag didn't reach the cart, which may be our script's fault, so we couldn't review the bag or checkout.

What's already working
- Price ($140) and the star rating sit directly under the product name, with "QUALIFIES FOR FREE SHIPPING" right below.
- The size grid crosses out sold-out sizes (12, 13, 14), so shoppers never pick a size they can't buy.
- A Fit Check slider shows the boot runs true to size, which answers the biggest worry when buying shoes online.
- Afterpay is shown under ADD TO BAG as $35.00 x 4, and there's a TRY ON button alongside it.
- Every page ends with four ways to get help (help centre, text, live chat with a real person, email with a one-business-day reply).
Fix these, in this order

Give the cookie banner an Accept button and keep it off half the screen
On a phone, the cookie banner covered the bottom half of the home page, the Manoadome page and the cart page throughout our visit. It offers only an X and "Cookies Settings" (no Accept or Reject), and its text says that by continuing to use the site you consent. On the home page, a "Download our official app!" banner sat on top of it. Together they hide the product grid, the size buttons and most of the first screen.
In the cookie tool (it looks like OneTrust), switch the mobile layout to a compact bottom bar with Accept and Reject buttons, and make sure a choice is remembered across pages. Show the app download banner only after the cookie choice is made, and only from the second visit.02Speed · 1 day
Get the home page's first image on screen in under 3 seconds
Google's mobile test scored the home page 54 out of 100. The largest element on the first screen appeared after 9.0 seconds on a mid-range phone, and scripts froze the page for 463ms (aim for under 200ms). Unlike many stores, Google's real-user data also rates the site only "average", so real shoppers feel this, not just the test.
Find the largest first-screen element in PageSpeed Insights (likely the 30% OFF BOTTOMS hero banner). Serve it as a phone-sized WebP (under about 200KB), don't lazy-load it, and give it high fetch priority. Then load the cookie tool, app banner, chat and review scripts after the page has rendered. Remove scripts for apps no longer in use.03Product page · 1 hour
Don't pre-select a size
When we opened the Manoadome page, "SIZE: 7" was already selected and highlighted. A shopper who taps ADD TO BAG without noticing gets a size 7, which leads to wrong-size orders, returns and exchanges, and a poor first experience with the store.
In the product template, leave no size selected by default and show "Select a size" on the size line and on the button until one is picked. If ADD TO BAG is tapped with no size, scroll to the size grid and highlight it.04Trust and checkout · 30 minutes
Say which free shipping a product qualifies for
The announcement bar promises "FREE EXPRESS SHIPPING ON ORDERS +$199", and the $140 Manoadome says "QUALIFIES FOR FREE SHIPPING". Shoppers can't tell whether this is the same offer, whether they'll get express delivery, or why a $140 item qualifies for a $199 offer. Uncertainty about delivery is a common reason to leave at checkout.
Change the product line to name the tier and the gap, for example "Free standard shipping. Add $59 for free express", using the cart total. Keep the announcement bar and product line using the same words for the same offer.05Product page · 30 minutes
Open the description by default on product pages
Below the Fit Check, the Manoadome page has DESCRIPTION, FIND IN STORE, DELIVERY, RETURNS and SHARE as closed sections. Nothing about the boot itself (materials, sole, weather resistance, how it compares to an Air Force 1) is visible without tapping. Shoppers buying a $140 boot they haven't seen in person want that detail on the page.
In the product template, set the DESCRIPTION section to open by default, or show the first two or three lines above the closed sections. Keep the rest collapsed.06Trust and checkout · 30 minutes
Make the review count match, and fix "BASED ON BASED ON"
Under the price, the page shows five stars and "5 REVIEWS". The reviews section further down says "4.9" and "BASED ON BASED ON 7 REVIEWS". Small mismatches like this make careful shoppers wonder whether the reviews are real, which works against reviews that are clearly genuine.
Check that the star badge under the price and the reviews widget read from the same source; one may be counting reviews the other leaves out (some reviews show "Verified by shop"). The doubled "BASED ON" is usually a theme label plus the app's own label: remove one in the reviews app's text settings.07Product page · 1 hour
Close the blank space under "Latest Drops"
In our capture, the "LATEST DROPS" heading on the product page was followed by roughly a full phone screen of empty white space before the reviews. A shopper scrolling for reviews may think the page has ended and leave before reaching them.
Check the Latest Drops carousel on a phone. If it loads its products late or not at all, give it a fixed height that matches its content, show placeholder tiles while it loads, or move it below the reviews.08Search basics · 20 minutes
Give the home page one main heading
We found no main heading (H1) on the home page; the hero is an image. Google uses the main heading to understand what a page is about, and the home page is the one most likely to rank for "streetwear Australia" searches.
Add a short H1 in the theme's home page template. It can be visually small or placed under the hero, for example "Streetwear, sneakers and headwear". See the rewrite below.

Streetwear, Sneakers & Headwear | Culture Kings
Start with the cookie banner, because it covers half of every page a phone shopper sees, and fix the pre-selected size the same day: both are settings changes. Then tidy the product page details (free shipping wording, description, review count). The home page speed work is the biggest job, and the one Google's real-user data says your shoppers actually notice. Also check that adding to bag works from a product page on a phone, since our scripted visit's add didn't reach the cart. This is an independent review of Culture Kings' public online store. We have no connection to Culture Kings and haven't seen its analytics, so the likely impact of each fix is our judgement from common patterns, not a measured result.
