Teardown · Frank Green · 8 November 2026

A clean, fast-to-buy product page with no star rating or reviews anywhere on it, a 12-second home page hero on phones, and feature blocks that describe a stainless steel bottle on a Tritan cup

frank green makes buying easy once a shopper is on a product page: the price sits right under the name, colours are big tappable swatches, Add to Cart is on the first screen on a laptop, and the bag drawer confirms free shipping with a progress bar and suggests a matching cup. Checkout offers PayPal and Google Pay up front, plus Afterpay, Klarna and Zip. The leaks are in proof and accuracy. We found no star rating or customer reviews on the Edition II 595ml Big Cup page. The feature blocks under the description say the cup is "crafted from over 90% recycled stainless steel" with "a secure screw in lid", while the description says it's Tritan with a straw lid. And the home page's main image took 12.0 seconds to appear in Google's mobile test. We reviewed frankgreen.com.au as a first-time visitor on an iPhone-sized screen and a laptop on 6 November 2026, using the Edition II 595ml Big Cup with Jumbo Straw (Iris, $44.95) as the test product.

What's already working

  • The price ($44.95) sits directly under the product name on both phone and laptop, so shoppers never hunt for it.
  • The bag drawer shows a full free-shipping progress bar and says "FREE shipping will be applied at checkout" once the $75 threshold is reached, so shoppers know before they pay.
  • The drawer's "Pairs well with" row offers a matching Edition II cup with colour swatches and a one-tap add.
  • The description is specific about use: "Smoothies, iced matcha, boba", shatterproof Tritan, a silicone grip and a wide straw.
  • Checkout offers PayPal and Google Pay as express options, and Afterpay, Klarna and Zip as payment methods; the page doesn't shift as it loads (layout shift score 0) and scripts block it for only 51ms.

Fix these, in this order

  1. 01Product page · Half a day

Show a star rating under the price and reviews on every product page

We found no star rating, review count or customer reviews anywhere on the Big Cup page, on phone or laptop. Edition II is a new range asking $45–$70 for a cup or bottle, and a first-time buyer comparing it with cheaper bottles wants to know other people are happy with it. The page has a 5-year warranty and "100% Australian Owned & Designed", but nothing from customers.

If you already collect reviews (Okendo, Yotpo, Judge.me and similar all work on Shopify), add the app's star-rating block under the price in the product template and its reviews block above Specs. For a new Edition II product with few reviews, show the reviews from the matching Edition I product until it has its own, and say so.

Get the home page's first image on screen in under 3 seconds

In Google's mobile test, the largest element on the home page, the "Unstoppable" hero, took 12.0 seconds to appear on a mid-range phone, and the overall mobile score was 64 out of 100. Scripts only blocked the page for 51ms, so the delay is the hero itself, not apps. Google's real-user data rates the site fast, so most visitors are on quick connections, but shoppers arriving from social ads on mobile data see a dark, empty first screen for a long time.

Check what the hero is: if it's a video or a large background image, serve a phone-width WebP poster image (under about 200KB) that shows straight away and load any video after it. Make sure the hero isn't lazy-loaded and give it high fetch priority in the theme section.

Check the "needs to be added from its product page" error at checkout

During our scripted visit, a 20oz Hero Tumbler (Graphite) ended up in the bag alongside the Big Cup, and checkout opened with a red error: "20oz Hero Tumbler - EDII – Graphite needs to be added from its product page. Please remove it from your cart and add it again there." This may be our script's fault, but it's worth checking, because a shopper who adds the Tumbler from a quick-add button on a collection page or the home page and then meets this error at checkout has to go back and start again, and many won't.

Add a Hero Tumbler from every quick-add button (home page product rows, collection grids, the cart drawer's "Pairs well with") and go to checkout. If the error appears, the product likely needs a choice that quick-add skips (a required option or bundle). Either remove quick-add for that product so the button opens the product page, or make quick-add send the same data the product page does.

Make the feature blocks match the product they sit on

The description says the Big Cup is "shatterproof Tritan" with a "Jumbo Straw". The dark feature panel below says "crafted from over 90% recycled stainless steel" and "A secure screw in lid with secure seals prevents accidental spills on the move." A careful shopper now doesn't know what the cup is made of or whether it's leak-proof with a straw in it, and a shopper who buys it expecting steel will be disappointed.

The panel looks like a shared section used on every Edition II product. Move its text into product metafields (or create a second version of the section for Tritan cups) so the Big Cup says, for example, "Tritan, BPA-free, dishwasher safe" and describes its actual lid. See the rewrite below.

Replace "High demand" with a dispatch estimate

Right under Add to Cart, the page says "High demand. Orders of this product may have extra processing times" without saying how long. Shoppers buying a gift or replacing a daily cup want to know when it will arrive, and an open-ended warning invites them to wait or buy elsewhere.

Swap the text for a concrete estimate, such as "Ships in 3–5 business days", using a product metafield so each product can show its own. If the estimate is normal, remove the warning entirely and use the space for free shipping (see the rewrite below).

Close the empty gap below "Made for each other" on phones

In our capture, the phone layout showed a single "Made for each other" product, then roughly a full screen of blank space before the feature panel. A shopper scrolling for more detail meets what looks like the end of the page and may stop there, missing the specs, FAQs, shipping and returns below.

Open the product page on a phone and scroll past the "Made for each other" block. If the gap is there, it's probably a section that reserves height for content that doesn't load (a second recommendation, a video or an app block). Remove the empty block or set its height to fit its content.

Add a share image and shorten the home page title

Links to frankgreen.com.au show no image when shared in messages or on social, so the brand's most visual moment, someone sending a friend a bottle they like, shows as a bare link. The home page title, "frank green Australia: Reusable Cups and Bottles, Stainless Steel Cups", is 70 characters, so Google cuts it off, and the 179-character description is cut off too.

In the theme editor, open Theme settings → Social media and upload a share image (1200×630, a product shot with the logo). In Online Store → Preferences, set the title and description to the versions in the rewrites below.

Reusable Bottles & Coffee Cups | frank green

Home page description

NowAll of our reusable cups, bottles and stainless steel products are stain and odour resistant, featuring a spill proof sc…

Insulated bottles, cups and tumblers designed in Australia. Leak-proof lids, a 5-year warranty and free shipping on orders over $75.

Start with the feature panel and the "High demand" line: both are text changes that take under an hour and fix things a careful shopper notices. Then add a star rating and reviews to product pages, because that's the change most likely to win over first-time buyers of a new range. Check the Hero Tumbler checkout error the same day, since if it's real it blocks orders outright. The home page hero is the biggest job and matters most for mobile visitors from ads. This is an independent review of frank green's public online store. We have no connection to frank green and haven't seen its analytics, so the likely impact of each fix is our judgement from common patterns, not a measured result.
